Participation of the Centre’s Forensic Experts at the 14th ISABS Conference in Dubrovnik

From June 15 to 19, 2026, the 14th International Society for Applied Biological Sciences (ISABS) and the Mayo Clinic Conference was held in Dubrovnik. The conference brought together numerous distinguished experts, researchers, and Nobel Prize laureates, who presented research on the application of artificial intelligence in forensic sciences, medicine, genetics and anthropology.

The Centre's forensic experts presented their work and research in the fields of forensic biology and forensic toxicology through the following poster presentations:

• Stjepan Brzica, Forensic Toxicology Expert, presented a poster entitled "Forensic investigation of intentional animal poisoning: an integrated approach in crime prediction and resolution", prepared in collaboration with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Zagreb.
• Nina Ivanković, Forensic DNA expert, presented a poster entitled "Analysis of degraded forensic samples using massively parallel sequencing: advantages and challenges".
• Karla Johman, Forensic DNA expert, presented a poster entitled "Evaluation of simulated forensic mixed samples: comparison and advantages of massively parallel sequencing technology over capillary electrophoresis".
• Niko Jakoliš, Forensic DNA expert, presented a poster entitled "In house optimized method of non-destructive automated DNA extraction from forensic tooth samples", authored by Ivana Horjan Zanki, Forensic DNA expert.
• Dajana Krsnik, Forensic DNA expert, presented a poster entitled "Kit-dependent allelic discordance at the D1S1656 STR locus: a forensic case report".

Along with the exchange of professional knowledge and experiences, participation at one of the most important scientific conferences dedicated to precision medicine, genetics, and forensic sciences provided Centre's experts with direct insight into innovative research in the field of artificial intelligence applications in forensics.
