This year's meeting of the DNA Working Group, held from 13 to 15 May in Palermo, Italy, in organization of the Direzione Centrale Anticrimine della Polizia di Stato, Servizio Polizia Scientifica (DAC-SPS), was attended by 152 experts from 36 countries, including two DNA experts from Biology and Fibres Department of the Forensic Science Centre "Ivan Vučetić".

The multi-day working meeting included presentations of work and achievements in the areas of quality control and bioethics, analysis and interpretation methods, legislation and databases, automation systems and artificial intelligence in the field of forensic biology.
Numerous case studies were presented, which were solved precisely thanks to newly developed techniques and methods of research and expertise.
At the joint part of the meeting, the results of the exercises and inter laboratory exercises and tests were presented, in which our Centre also participates.
The newly growing trend in the world does not bypass forensic biology either, and the possibility of using artificial intelligence in the forensic examination of biological traces was presented.
This year, the election of co-chairs of individual subgroups was also held, and the senior DNA expert from our Centre, Igor Obleščuk, was re-elected as co-chair of the subgroup for legislation and databases.
