Experts from the Forensic Science Centre “Ivan Vučetić”, Biology and Fibres Department, participated in the 13th annual meeting of the ENFSI APST Expert Working Group, held from April 21 to 24, 2025, in Madrid, Spain.

Around 50 experts from European forensic institutions gathered at the annual meeting of the ENFSI Expert Working Group for Animal, Plant and Soil Traces, held at the Criminalistics Service of the Guardia Civil in Madrid.

Two forensic DNA experts represented the Centre “Ivan Vučetić”: Slavena Cukrov, PhD, and Karla Johman, univ. mag. ing. biotechn.

During the four-day meeting, valuable information was exchanged about noteworthy cases from practice, current challenges faced by experts in their work, and new scientific advancements in the analysis of traces of animal, plant, and microbial origin, as well as soil traces.

A session called UFO (Unidentified Forensic Object) was also held, where unidentified traces from various cases were presented.

A special focus of this meeting was a workshop presenting the results of the Proficiency Test and the Collaborative Exercise for DNA analysis of animal trace evidence, in which the Centre achieved successful results.
